Both Minneapolis Al-Anon/Alateen Information Services (Mpls AIS) and St. Paul Al-Anon/Alateen Intergroup (SPIG) depend on office volunteers to serve the membership and carry our message of hope and help to families and friends of alcoholics.
You will be trained in what to do and how you can share your experience, strength and hope in accordance with the principles of our program. Every Al-Anon or Alateen member with recovery and gratitude is invited to participate in this service adventure.
Because of our tradition of being fully self-supporting, only Al-Anon or Alateen members are eligible to be volunteers.
The SPIG office is at 253 State Street on St. Paul’s West Side (map). You may have use the address 253 South State Street when using a GPS. Since SPIG is an all volunteer organization, our office is closed when no volunteer is available, making this Twelfth Step work particularly important. Our current practice is to keep the office closed on any day for which we don't have a commitment from an individual or group to staff the office every week. This makes for a more consistent calendar
Two vital responsibilities of office volunteers in St. Paul are to answer the telephone and sell literature and medallions. Most calls are questions about meeting times and places which you will be able to answer using the meeting pages on this website. Other calls are from people with questions about Al-Anon or just needing someone to talk to about issues related to living with a problem drinker. You are not there to give advice. A referral list of volunteers willing to take extended time on the phone to share their experience strength and hope is available to you.
Information on specific days for which no volunteer is currently scheduled is in the calendar below. If you see a lot of red or yellow, it means the office will probably be closed too often.
If you have been an Al-Anon member for at least one year and think you might be willing to be an office volunteer for SPIG, please call 651-771-2208 or email stpaulafg@pobox.com. Email will be forwarded to the office volunteer coordinator. We are currently seeking volunteers to staff the office on Saturdays.
Minneapolis AIS office at 7204 West 27th Street, Suite 101 in St. Louis Park (map) is currently open from 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday and 9 am to 1 pm Saturdays.
As an office volunteer you will answer the telephone, providing meeting information and a listening ear. You may refer callers to Al-Anon members willing to take extended time to share their experience, strength and hope. When you are not answering the phone, you may have the opportunity to help on other projects.
If you think you might be willing to be an office volunteer at Minneapolis AIS, please call 952-920-3961 or email info@aismpls.org.
These are wonderful opportunities for growth in your program. As our pamphlet P-78 says, When I Got Busy I Got Better.
You will learn how to transfer our phone lines to your phone so that you will be available to answer questions about meeting dates, times and locations and general information. The Home Phone Volunteer page describes what you would do, how you can sign up to volunteer and includes a calendar showing times when there is no home phone volunteer scheduled.
See the Alateen sponsors page.
